Facts and Questions

Is Nitrogen explosive?
No, in fact, nitrogen is very inert and extremely safe. Nitrogen is the most commonly used chemical in the USA. It is used for storing and packaging of snack foods, coffee, and other food items. It does not support combustion, which is why it's used in race cars and aircraft tires.

Is there any nitrogen bottles to dispose of?
No! All the Nitrogen is extracted from the air we breathe, which is about 78.1% nitrogen to begin with. There are no nitrogen cannisters, bottles, or cylinders to worry about.

Will Nitrogen improve the tire pressure monitoring system on my vehicle?
Yes. Nitrogen will help maintain proper inflation in your tires and reduce the number of faults detected by the TPMS.

Do I still need to check tire pressure?
Yes. But, you will find the tire pressure to be more consistent over temperature changes.

What about my spare tire?
You should certainly inflate your spare with nitrogen to help maintain proper inflation when it comes time you need to use it. Because of the slower air pressure loss of nitrogen through the sidewalls, your spare is more likely to be at proper pressure over a long time than if it was filled with regular air.

Is Nitrogen compatible with my internal tire balancing [powder, beads, fluid]?
Absolutely, in fact, you couldn't find a better operating environment for an internal tire balancing product than a tire filled with nitrogen, due to the absence of moisture.

What do I do if I have to add air?
No problem at all. The small amount of air you may add at some point will still be a very small percentage of the total mixture of air/nitrogen in the tire. Fill a slow leaking tire with air, and when you get back to your Nitrogen Dealer, have him purge and refill the tire with Nirogen once the leak has been repaired.

Can I use my existing air compressor?
In most cases, yes. The rating for the N2 Unit is based on inlet pressure of 145 - 150 psi, and 8 CFM for the N20608-PG. If your compressor does not put out at least that much, you will get proportionately less than the rated output. Contact us with the specifics of your compressor and your shop work environment, and we can answer this question more accurately.

How long does it take to install?
If you already have at least a connection point from your compressor, and the proper hoses and fittings, you can have the unit connected and running in about an hour. For more complex installations, the time will increase, but the install time is very, very quick regardless.

I install balancing [powder, beads, fluid] in customers tires. Is Nitrogen compatible?
Absolutely! Not only is it compatible, but it is the best environment for internal balancing media due to no moisture. Forget about air dryers or "clumping" of your media when you fill the tires with Nitrogen. It will make your customers tire's last longer, air pressure will be more consistent over temperature changes, and because nitrogen prevents auto-ignition, you will be adding a level of safety in the event of a catastrophic tire failure.

What electric is required to hook this up?
None

Can I just "T" into my existing compressor line?
Sure, but there's a better method. It is highly recommended to install a Filter/Regulator unit such as the IR P29241-810.  The Filter/Regulator should have a coalescing, draining feature for removing any existing water and fluid oil from the air before going into the N2 Unit. This will prolong the life of the filters for your N2 unit.

What about maintenance?
Change the first two filters (F01 & F02) every 18 months or if the indicator is in the "yellow" zone, whichever comes first.
The Carbon Bed and Post Carbon Bed filters should be replaced by an IR Technician about every 5 years. If you keep your two primary filters changed, and your incoming air relatively clean and dry, this time span could even be longer.
